From large choreographed dances on the streets of North Korea to wrestling matches in front of large crowds on the Mongolian steppe, festivals and holidays are often the ideal time to visit and experience a new country and culture.

Whilst you might think the best spot to be in to celebrate a national holiday would be the capital city of whichever country you’re visiting, we’ve found that these big cities often hold over-commercialised celebrations catering to foreign visitors; that’s why, where possible, we’ll take you out to local towns and villages to join in the festivities in a more traditional way alongside the locals.
